# How long does it take to get my Bitcoin back after I repay?

By Benjamin Whitby · Published 29 October 2026 · Updated 29 October 2026

## The short answer

On Diamond Hands by GVNR, getting your BTC back takes two steps. Repay UCD is one Ethereum transaction: it burns the UCD and updates your debt at once. Withdraw BTC then sends your BTC from the loan's vault on Bitcoin L1 to your own Bitcoin address, complete after 6 Bitcoin block confirmations; block times vary.

## Key facts

- Repay UCD is an Ethereum transaction. Your debt and collateral ratio update in the same transaction.
- Repaying does not send your BTC automatically. After a full repay the loan stays open with zero debt, and you use Withdraw BTC.
- Withdraw BTC sends native BTC from your loan's own vault. It was never wrapped or bridged, so there is nothing to unwrap.
- A withdrawal is complete after 6 Bitcoin block confirmations, not one block.
- Withdraw BTC only pays an address on your own withdrawal allowlist. A newly added address becomes usable after 24 hours on mainnet.
- You can repay any amount of UCD, in part or in full, with no early-repayment penalty.
- Your vault address and the withdrawal transaction are visible on public block explorers.
- Diamond Hands is in Mainnet Beta, with a UCD cap for now. The cap is expected to rise in the coming months.

## Why does the time to get your Bitcoin back vary so much between lenders?

Diamond Hands keeps your BTC native on Bitcoin L1 in its own isolated vault for the whole loan, so getting it back is one Bitcoin transaction from that vault to you. How long the same step takes elsewhere depends on where the lender put your coins and in what form.

The Motley Fool reported on 27 October 2026 that with Coinbase's fixed-rate Bitcoin-backed loans, "your Bitcoin is converted to Coinbase Wrapped BTC and locked in a smart contract on Base", an Ethereum Layer-2 network. Those loans are due in full on "the last Friday of the current month or the next month", and borrowers who repay early "owe the same amount of interest" ([The Motley Fool](https://www.fool.com/investing/2026/10/27/coinbase-offers-fixed-rate-bitcoin-backed-loans/)).

When the collateral is a wrapped token on another network, ask how and when it turns back into BTC on Bitcoin. With a Diamond Hands loan, the BTC in the vault never stopped being BTC on Bitcoin.

## What happens, step by step, when I repay?

On Diamond Hands, the release is something you trigger, in this order:

1. **Get the UCD.** If you swapped your UCD into USDC or USDT, the most consistent way to get UCD back is to Swap through the PSM.

2. **Repay UCD.** Repay part or all of the debt. The repayment burns that UCD on Ethereum and updates your debt and collateral ratio in the same transaction. After a full repay the loan stays open with zero debt.

3. **Withdraw BTC.** Choose an address on your withdrawal allowlist and the amount, and approve the withdrawal in your wallet. Your BTC is sent from the loan's vault on Bitcoin L1.

4. **Wait for 6 confirmations.** The app tracks the withdrawal's Bitcoin confirmations. It is complete after 6 Bitcoin block confirmations.

Bitcoin transactions cannot be reversed, so read the destination address back before you approve.

## How long do 6 Bitcoin confirmations take?

Diamond Hands waits for 6 Bitcoin block confirmations before a withdrawal is complete. How long that takes depends on the speed of the Bitcoin network at the time. A new Bitcoin block is usually mined every 10 minutes, but network speed is outside Diamond Hands' control, so there is no fixed or guaranteed time.

There is no extra waiting period on the repayment side. The repayment counts as soon as its Ethereum transaction confirms.

## Why can't I withdraw to a new address straight away?

Diamond Hands only sends a withdrawal to an address on your own withdrawal allowlist. You add addresses yourself from your wallet. A newly added address becomes usable after 24 hours on mainnet. Removing an address takes effect straight away.

So if you plan to repay and withdraw to a new address, add that address a day ahead. If the address is already on your allowlist, the 24-hour delay does not apply.

## Can I get some BTC back before I repay in full?

Yes, on Diamond Hands you can withdraw part of your BTC while the loan is open, as long as the collateral ratio stays at or above 110% after the withdrawal. To take all of your BTC out, repay the UCD in full first, then use Withdraw BTC.

You can repay any amount of UCD at any point in the term, with no early-repayment penalty.

## How can I check that my BTC has been released?

Diamond Hands puts both sides of the loan on public chains. You can see your own loan's vault address, and BTC collateral and EVM-side holdings such as UCD are visible on-chain. The repayment shows on an Ethereum explorer, and the withdrawal shows on a Bitcoin block explorer, with its confirmation count.

The same is true for an AI agent acting for you. It can check the vault's BTC balance and the withdrawal's confirmations from public data, without waiting on a support reply.

## What are the risks?

Diamond Hands keeps the loan secured by your BTC until the debt is repaid, and the main risk until then is liquidation. If the collateral ratio, the value of the BTC in your vault against the UCD you owe, falls to 110%, the loan is liquidated in full and you lose the BTC in the vault. Only specified liquidators can trigger it, and no BTC is returned. Below 150%, the loan shows a warning first.

If the BTC price is falling and you hold UCD, Repay UCD is the quickest way to raise your ratio, because it does not wait on Bitcoin confirmations.

A withdrawal sent to the wrong address cannot be pulled back. Check the address before you approve it.

Diamond Hands is still in Mainnet Beta, with a UCD cap for now. The cap is expected to rise in the coming months.
